Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Expands Use of Syscon Solutions in Jail
Vancouver, BC, 23rd September, 2009: SYSCON JUSTICE SYSTEMS, the leading provider of Offender Management Systems (OMS) for correctional agencies world-wide, is proud to announce that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) in California has awarded a contract to Syscon to expand the use of the company's Elite OMS throughout the LASD jail system.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department manages the largest jail system in the western world, housing approximately 20,000 inmates, averaging 1,000 admissions and releases each day. Utilizing the third-largest bussing operation in the nation, LASD transports a large volume of inmates to and from court every day, as well as transporting inmates among and between 8 custodial facilities, 22 Sheriff's stations, and more than 50 law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles County. Tracking and monitoring the enormous volume of bookings, releases, and movements within the LASD system is a monumental undertaking. Much of this work is already being handled successfully by elements of the Elite system (called JIMS in LASD) , implemented in Phase 1 since 2003.
The new contract extension is for Stage 1 of Phase 2, formally commenced on September 1st, and will continue to December 2010. The new work builds on the Phase 1 infrastructure to expand Title 15/Inmate Event Tracking, adds management functionality for Visits and Community supervision, and brings in new document acceptance functionality. This stage of the project will also see completion of the design for a new Consolidated Booking process to further enhance operational efficiencies.
Lt. Richard Myers of LASD noted that "The Jail Information Management System implemented by Syscon has, and continues, to change history in LASD by reducing manual processing, replacing antiquated systems, and providing real time integrated information to assist staff in managing our Custody and Correctional Services Division more efficiently...JIMS clearly enhances the safety of staff, inmates and the public. Syscon is considered by LASD to be a valued partner.”
Dan Crawford, President of Syscon Justice Systems, said: "Syscon is extremely pleased to be able to provide expanded functionality to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. We are very proud of our partnership with LASD, and look forward to providing them with excellent service for a very long time to come."
